The Jaeger LeCoultre (JLC) Master Minute Repeater Antoine LeCoultre is a limited edition wristwatch produced in only 175 pieces. With its 44mm diameter solid 18kt Rose Gold case, 15 day power reserve and minutes repetition, this is a powerful and impressive timepiece.

The oversized 18kt Rose Gold case features a broad bezel, massive repeater slide, thick lugs, sapphire crystals front and back and is 44mm diameter by 15.5mm thick. The entire case is polished in finish.

The dial isn’t so much of a dial as an interface with the watch’s timekeeping and complications. Anthracite  in color with applied white gold hour markers and white gold alpha hands, the front of the watch is transparent, which gives you the luxury of viewing much of the caliber below. There are also scales which show the power reserve remaining in the movement measured in days, as well as the amount of torque in the mainspring.

You can see the extremely high quality of this watch in its fit and finish, both of the dial and case as well as the movement. JLC is among the elite Swiss manufactures and this watch illustrates way better than my words can ever convey.

Movement is the manual winding Jaeger LeCoultre Caliber 947 with 43 jewels, dual spring barrels to achieve the 15 day power reserve, and of course minutes repetition. The hammers of the minute repeating complication can be seen working in the SPRING TORQUE dial cutout.

Two years in development, this is a stunning addition to the Jaeger lineup. It is the first minute-repeater that is water resistant to 50 meters. It displays its functions on the front dial which offer a view into this miniaturized wonder of mechanical engineering. The watch chimes – which are sublime to hear and which were designed in collaboration with the Orchestra Leader Georges Prêtre – produce a very sonorous 55 decibels (at two feet away). An incredible 15-day power reserve. Limited to a very exclusive 175 individually numbered pieces.

The minute repeater, which, because of its level of horological complexity, is built far less frequently today than the tourbillon, for example, is the most emotional of all the watch complications. Not only is it a feast for the eyes, but it is also music to the ears and penetrates directly into the realm of human feelings, where it strikes very archaic chords. Making the actual time audible and measurable once again, in the same way as the tower clocks with their striking mechanism, adds a quality to the perception of time beyond a fleeting or even lingering glance at the dial.
